Lilypie Second Birthday tickers

Found a house and changes to reception plans...

So we've found a house that would be perfect for us. It has a HUGE shady grass backyard with a big elm tree and lots of oleanders. I want to plant more if we get it to use in front of the block wall on the street side. Those things are pretty cheap to buy, are pretty, and seem to grow like weeds. There's one section of the yard that has gravel, which we'd want to change to grass. A sprawling grassy backyard in Arizona...who would have thunk it?

So our second favorite part is the bonus room, which we plan to transform into our tropical sports lounge/movie theatre. It's already got the tropical thing going for it. Wood floors, bamboo reed and lauhala wallcovering, dark wood beams...it's pretty cool looking as is. The antique looking stove thing will be promptly removed because it throws off the room plans. I'm honestly not familiar with them, but it has double doors and has the vent like a fireplace. Kind of interesting looking. We might sell it or see what else we can use it for. (The next time we're there, we'll have to take pictures!) So then we have plans to make a lounge area in the back, equipped with sports collectibles, like our autographed jerseys, photographs, and so forth. We'd like to find a "gently used" pool table to go in this area and install a bar. Toward the front of the room will be our MOVIE THEATRE!!! Yaaaay! It was the only house that gave us this option. The rafters/beams make speaker installation a breeze. Since we don't want to block our mountain view all the time, we want to get a screen that comes down and curtains to block out light for the ultimate cinematic experience. Movie theatre seats are also somewhere in our future...complete with a reclining option and cup holders are a must! The stairway leading up will more than likely feature our favorite movie posters. We already decided we each get to pick probably 3. When it's finished, you'll have to try to figure out who picked what!

It's funny that the bonus room and the backyard are our favorite things and the rest of the house is just icing and not the other way around, but oh well. When the bonus room is almost 600 square feet, it's pretty darn cool! (My first apartment was about 400 I believe and the dorm room was...well, smaller...though I liked both very much!) One thing I totally love about the house is the plantation shutters. I think it really dresses up the house and I think those would have been pricey to get later. There's a distinctly island-ish feel to the house. The current owner lived in Maui for 20 years and is moving back so that probably has a lot to do with it.

I also really like the kitchen. It's white cabinets with updated hardware and coated wood countertops. It's a very warm looking kitchen, very inviting and just has a cozy feel to it. I also like that the window looks out to the backyard so I can watch the dogs and see the beautiful tree out there. Down the road when we have kids, this would also be a great feature.

The laundry room is GIGANTIC. It could easily be a bedroom and a large bedroom at that. Lots of space for cabinets, shelves and storage. There's also an extra freezer that they'll more than likely be leaving behind, which definitely works for us! Because I'm bad about hanging clothes right away, I talked to Brady about having a wardrobe bar/rack in there with lots of hangers so it's an easier process. I also am hoping to maybe sell what's in there and get a new washer and dryer with pedestals since I'm like 9 feet tall. We also want to finish the floor since it's concrete.

The house is tiled throughout, except for the bedrooms, which have what looks to be new carpeting. Our only negative was the size of the master bathroom, but eventually we can see about adding an extension to the house, which would make our bedroom bigger too. It'll work for now since we also have the extra bathroom. As far as bathrooms go though, we'd like to investigate adding one in the bonus room.

Other possible future extension projects would be to make the garage bigger since the bonus room turned it into a 1 car garage and so we could maybe add a work bench.

Our realtor, Kurt, is investigating electric bills and sale prices of houses in the area. He spoke with their realtor and fished for what kind of prices they might accept, while minimizing our interest in the house. All a part of the game. We're kind of delaying to make sure we can have jobs in that area, now that gas is $27/gallon, or feels that way anyways. We'll keep you updated when there's news on this front.

The second part of this actually very long blog is our reception. We've switched locations and we're kind of psyched about it because we can really go all out with the theme and look we're going for. We have some construction projects planned, which we'll hopefully be able to use in our (hopefully) future bonus room (AKA: Tropical Sports Lounge/Movie Theatre...we need a more official name!) The switch will also help us start off pretty well-off from the get-go, while not sacrificing any of the fun. I won't give away what projects we're working on, but think TROPICAL. It'll be such a great time!

Well, I'm pretty tired and needing to get a few things done before bed. I have other updates on things, which I'll talk about tomorrow! Very excited for all of it!
