31 weeks!

What's going on with Kaelyn:

Baby's going through major brain and nerve development these days. His irises now react to light, and all five senses are in working order. (He won't pick up anything from his nose until after birth, though -- smell is transferred through air, not amniotic fluid.)

The digestive track is nearly mature, but the last few weeks in utero are critical for the lungs. In fact, one of the biggest problems experienced by premature babies is underdeveloped lungs. But if your little one decides to emerge before your due date, there is much that can be done in the hospital to get them -- and the rest of that little body -- ready to go home.

How far along? 31 weeks

How big is baby? The size update for this week is that she weighs about as much as 4 naval oranges. Length-wise, she's about 16+ inches.

Sleep: ::whimper:: I need more.

Best moment this week: Christmas with family and friends was wonderful; ordering the crib was very exciting; spending some time in the nursery...and watching her move across my belly :) (see "Movement")

Movement: Little one has been very active the past few days...and she's getting strong! We actually sat and watched her move my belly around the other night...AMAZING.

Food cravings: I repeat: Fuddruckers cheese fries. That's mainly me though, I think. I'm craving meat in the form of cheeseburgers on her behalf.

Belly Button in or out? In, but the top inside part is poofing out.

What I miss: Blissful, uninterrupted sleep with no heartburn and no charlie horses. My normal feet and ankles.

What I am looking forward to: New Year's with the Hubs. Putting the crib together and working on the nursery.

Milestones: I had to switch doctors at 31 weeks due to my doctor leaving the practice. Oh and this one people find amusing: Little girl showed her first true sign of rebellion against her Momma. I asked her to kindly get off a nerve that was causing me sharp, shooting pains. She responded by kicking me directly in the pelvic bone.

Weekly Wisdom: Take charge of your own care. If something's not right in how you're being treated, make a change. Also, if baby's healthy and you're healthy, that's all that really matters.
