Honeymoon Part 4: St. Lucia, St. Kitts, Art Auctions, and Fort Lauderdale Airport

So I skipped part 3 because the photos for Barbados are on the upstairs desktop, but here are a few photos from the last part of our honeymoon.

We'll start with St. Lucia, where we took a pirate ship (used in the Pirate movies and was used for the deck scenes of the Black Pearl) along the coast of the island. They played a few songs from the movie score, then an assortment of pirate/drinking/general songs of merriment. We enjoyed the trip from the front of the ship. We didn't mind even mind the rain.
Brady got some cool shots of the sails.
At Pigeon Island, we were fired upon from the ruins, we fired back, they surrendered, and we took a tender boat to the dock for our choice of a scavenger hunt or some relaxation on the beach, which was just down the way from Sandals. We opted for the beach.
From the shore we had a great view of our ship.
As we cooled off in the cool Caribbean ocean, a man in a motorboat filled with fruit and decorated with about 30 flags of all kinds pulled into the beach. That, in itself, was an interesting sight. Then Brady spotted something we don't see everyday. MY name on a flag.
On the way back to the cruise ship, the party got started. The rum punch was flowing, the group participation dances were starting, the sails were open, the sun was shining, the rum punch was flowing...This was about the time my head was starting to sway. I napped for a couple hours post rum-punch party.
Our last port was St. Kitts. Originally we had planned to dive more, but this ended up to be the only place we actually did dive. We were able to see a sea turtle, a huge sting ray, and some creative man-made reefs.
On the boat.
Surfacing after the dive. I think the mask is quite fetching, no?
Later in the day, we went back to the ship, got changed, had lunch, and headed back into port to do a little shopping. Not surprisingly, since we love animals so much, we couldn't resist getting our very own monkey!
Just kidding.
The art auctions were definitely a favorite part of the cruise. There were 5 total and we attended them all. Here's at our final auction...we call this one "Red-Nosed Twinkie in front of Naked Woman Posed Awkwardly"
We did not purchase that piece of art. I believe if was several thousand dollars, cheap in comparison to the supersized naked woman laying on side painting that was further down the way. I believe it was upwards from $20-30,000.
Our top two purchases...Godard's "Card Shark" with the reflection of the auctioneer's wife in the glass.
"Koi Garden"...this gives you an idea of how big this piece is!

The other two pieces we got we didn't get pictures with because they're not framed yet. One is a Manchester United championship panoramic and the other piece we won in one of the raffles. It's called "The Jungle."

We disembarked in Fort Lauderdale around 8:30 and got to the airport by 9. Our flight didn't leave until 5:30 and U.S. Airways doesn't allow passengers to check their bags until 3 hours before the flight. Sooo...over 9 hours at the airport. Exciting. We started off with breakfast at Chili's, followed by chips and salsa at Chili's, then an appetizer at Chili's.

By early afternoon, we decided to forfeit our booth and moved to a table in the main airport, where we sat and played chess on the computer. A good move, it turns out, for a businessman devouring a sub sandwich as he rushed from the check-in counters to the gates. You see, he started to choke and stopped at the table next to us to try to clear his throat, which got the attention of most of the people in the surrounding area, but Brady was the only one to jump to his feet to help. He asked the man if he needed him to perform the Heimlich maneuver. He nodded and Brady went to work. After a couple tries, it worked and the man was of course very thankful to Brady for saving his life. I was and am so proud of my husband. I already knew what a wonderful man he is, but when I watched him be the first and only person to jump up and help, and then save this person's life, it just added to his list of amazing qualities.

So that's the last part of our honeymoon...I'll be backtracking to cover Barbados soon, since it was, after all, our favorite port :)
