OB Modeling: Take One

Tonight we went to the college so that I could volunteer as an "OB model" while students practiced doing ultrasounds. We probably had 6 or 7 different students and some were definitely better than others at getting good looks at Peanut. Some of the pictures are a little fuzzy for that reason (they're afraid to press down with the wand), along with the fact that Peanut is very, and I do mean very, active. From the moment they brought him/her up on the screen, Peanut was all about bouncing around, doing flips, mooning us, sucking his/her thumb and he/she also had hiccups for awhile. (Perhaps it was because of the Firehouse Subs we had beforehand.) There was a very brief nap time, but Peanut seems to be taking advantage of the fact that there's still a lot of room to play. (Enjoy it while it lasts, Kiddo!)

Here are the photos they printed for us at 13 weeks, 5 days...

Mid-action shot waving. The image would blur and distort when Peanut decided to turn over...which was pretty often.

At this point, Peanut turned to face away from us, but gave us a thumbs up. A Top Gun fan, perhaps?

Peanut turned toward us quite a bit, which looks kind of weird at this point. Looking straight on like this, you can see the eye sockets and it generally looks alien-like. I refer to it as the "Skeletor" pose, hehe. I say that affectionately, of course. S/he waved at us--you can see the arm above the head toward the right.

They tried to take a peek to see if Peanut's a boy or girl, but the umbilical cord was right between the legs. Plus Peanut's still pretty small. They could have better luck when we go in next time, which is in 2 weeks exactly. We really had fun watching Peanut jumping and doing cartwheels. We laughed at how active s/he is. I was a very mellow baby, even in the womb, but Brady--not so much. Linda told me how she would strap him in his stroller to make him stay put and once she turned around and he was running around hunched over with the stroller on his back. Our other observation was that Peanut is rather stubborn. Brady teased that s/he was "just like their mother" to which they laughed and I sort of chuckled. They were waiting for my reaction and I said--"Yeah, I don't deny that." It's so funny to see Peanut's little personality develop.

Today was a big day. We also had an OB appointment--my first one with the doctor since we found out I'm pregnant. (The first office appointment was just with the ultrasound tech and then a nurse practitioner.) It was just a short appointment, but Dr. Doan got delayed at the hospital so we were waiting awhile. Once she got there, she answered a few questions we had and then she listened to the heartbeat with the doppler. She said the heartbeat sounded great and was about 150 bpm. Peanut must have been snoozing because s/he stayed put the whole time!

We had a busy weekend as well! Saturday, Brady had an engagement photo session up north of Payson while I spent the day with my momma at a resort pool. Sunday, I went to Carrie's baby shower (she's due in October), while Brady went to the D-backs game with his mom. Well, D-backs won and then we had dinner w/ Brady's parents at George & Son. Best. Asian. Cuisine. Ever.

Hope everyone's having a great week!

  1. It's amazing to be able to see Peanut before actually meeting him/her. Enjoy this time - it really is special.
