21 weeks! (very belated)

**The shirt I'm wearing in this week's belly picture is definitely the article of clothing that accentuates the bell-ay the most. For the record ;) I also added a belly pic to the 19 week survey**

What's going on with Kaelyn: Baby's digestive system is busy creating meconium (a tarry black substance made of swallowed amniotic fluid, digestive secretion, and dead cells), which will fill the first diaper after birth. And, if baby is a girl, her womb is now stocked up with her lifetime supply of six million eggs (the number will drop to around one million by birth).

Your baby is now busy putting fat onto those tiny bones. Most likely, you have felt his or her in-utero gymnastics by now, since lots of amniotic fluid provides plenty of room to move. Fetuses have sleep and wake cycles, and you may find that these get more predictable as the months progress. But they may not coincide with yours: Babies in the womb are typically active in the late evening, just when Mom is trying to get to sleep.

How far along? 21 weeks

How big is baby? I went with the guy-friendly size comparison this week. Little girl is about the length of a beer bottle, head to rump, but as there isn't any drinking going on at our house, I put a picture of a root beer bottle instead :) The fruit/vegetable comparisons are a banana and a carrot.

Sleep: I have my days where I'm really energetic and others where I need more rest. I definitely need a full-night's sleep if I can manage it though..and I'd take more.

Best moment this week: Getting the nursery completely painted and the floors in.

Movement: Every day!

Food cravings: My appetite isn't as ravenous as it was a few weeks ago and I didn't think I'd have an interesting answer this week...until last night. When we got back from the Suns game, I proceeded to toss one of those Green Giant broccoli and cheese side dishes into the microwave and then made myself a bowl of cereal. Cereal hasn't sounded good the entire pregnancy. Brady was amused by my flavor combination and the fact that I'd follow cereal up with broccoli. Let's see, so baby girl wants calcium and whatever vitamins are in broccoli...and proving we share DNA, she wanted cheese sauce darn it!

(Side note: Brady and I looked at getting a pretzel at the game last night. I like to dip my pretzel in cheese. Then I saw on the menu they charge $2.50 for a side of cheese. That's in addition to the $4 they charge for the actual pretzel. Umm, really? That's what? 1/4 ounce of cheese sauce? 1/8?? Seriously?)

Gender: Girl! (Unless we're told otherwise on Friday)

Belly Button in or out? In. Belly continues to make its presence known. I've gotten some "Woah" reactions from people this week.

What I miss: I'll admit it. I want me some coffee.

What I am looking forward to: Seeing Kaelyn on Friday! Spa day w/ the hubs for our anniversary! Massages for both of us (his an extended swedish and mine pre-natal of course) and a pre-natal facial for moi to hopefully encourage my skin to simmer down.

Milestones: Daily movement (she seems to be most active around 7pm, though this morning she has been going since 7am), 2 weeks without morning sickness ::knocks on wood repeatedly:: Morning sickness has been replaced by drop-of-a-hat-tears. Stupid things make me want to cry. We also scheduled some prenatal classes, including our hospital tour and I got a new spiffy cell phone with an awesome calendar to keep myself organized. Also started making up a to-do list before Kaelyn arrives. My planning instinct has kicked in, evidently.

Weekly Wisdom: Pregnancy brain is frightening--keep a calendar w/ reminders.
