The first small hiccup was finding that Spinato's, which we intended to pick up for lunch didn't open until 4. We adjusted our plan and picked up Miracle Mile Deli, which is delcious by the way. We took our heaping sandwiches and french fries over to the Phoenician resort for a picnic lunch by the gazebo and waterfall where we had our "first look" photos on our wedding day. It was pretty surreal being there exactly a year later. We started the photos around 1 that day and that's the same time we were there on Sunday.
10/25/08 & 10/25/09 (Brady was running back to the car to grab a blanket)
After a yummy lunch and some relaxing in the shade, we drove to the Lamar day spa, which is where my Girls' Day was a few days before the wedding :) We went into cruise/spa mode as soon as we got the robe and sandals on.
First on our agendas was sitting jacuzzi-side while we waited for our first appointments. I just dunked my legs since I'm not allowed to overheat. Soon after, I was called back for my prenatal massage and a few minutes later, Brady was taken back to the treatment rooms for his 85-minute swedish massage. I was curious at how the prenatal would be different from a regular massage. I pictured a strange looking massage table with a hole or sling in the middle, but basically they just had me hug a body pillow on my side.
When I emerged from the darkness of the treatment hallway, staggering more accurately, I had planned on waiting for Brady to get through with his massage and relax with him for awhile before my next appointment, but they took me back within a few minutes for my prenatal facial. My skin definitely needed it! It's basically the same as their standard facial, but they don't use certain products or do certain portions that aren't recommended for pregnant women. I actually caught myself falling asleep a few times (not during the extraction process, of course) and by the end, I couldn't feel my legs from the knees down. Really. When I stood up, it was like Bambi learning to walk.
Meanwhile, Brady spent some time in the steam room and sauna (also no-no's for me). I met him out in the beachy lounging room and we just sat and relaxed for awhile.
If you live in the area, I highly recommend Lamar. It's a great deal considering the amenities, they take SpaFinder gift certificates, and they offer some great specials. (I got my facial for 50% off since I also got a massage)
We weren't quite hungry enough for dinner so we decided to stop by BuyBuy Baby. It just opened here, having been bought out by Bed, Bath & Beyond. We browsed for awhile and will definitely be back.
For dinner, we decided on Spinato's since we didn't get to have that for lunch and Brady had been looking forward to it for weeks. The pizza was delicious, as expected. We still have some leftovers that are surprisingly still in our fridge. We'll be having them tonight! For dessert, we drove over to Kierland Commons. Brady had found a restaurant called Zinc Bistro that serves chocolate souffle. Now, I've been wanting a chocolate souffle for years. We didn't go to the formal dinner on our honeymoon cruise the *one* night they had it. Oh, but Sunday night, I got my chocolate souffle :) Because they take awhile to prepare, we put in our order with the hostess and walked over to Barnes & Noble to take a look around. We went back to the restaurant and sat at a candlelit booth (ignoring the illuminated eiffel tower in the center of the place) and savored every bite--me with my souffle, Brady with his chocolate and peanut butter tart. YUMMM.
Definitely a great day. As Brady said, 1 year down. 100 more to go!
happy memories
