Growth ultrasound appointment

Today was the growth ultrasound just to check little one's position and to estimate her size. This was also Brady's first trip into the new doctor's office since the switch. The ultrasound tech Sue was so sweet. We were chit-chatting with her the whole time and she gushed over our little girl and her chubby cheeks. The monitor wasn't where I could see it while she was taking measurements, but everything looks perfect. She took plenty of time after she was finished with the measurements to print some pictures for us and point out her face, her feet, and to describe what position she's in.

As I suspected, her tailbone and butt are just above my belly button. I can feel her push out there with her little booty and as Sue pointed out, her bones are really hardened at this point so no wonder it can get uncomfortable. She's head down and her feet were nestled up in my ribs. (I commented later that she's been pretty nice to me not kicking too much in the ribs and then about 15 minutes later she had her feet completely wedged in them. Oh well.)

When she first turned the screen, Sue told us "There's her face" and honestly, I was thinking: "Uh, where?" She had said that at this stage, it's hard to get good images because they're so big. Practically the whole screen was her face. Sue pointed out her chubby cheeks and then I saw her absolutely adorable little nose. She looks soo different from her earlier ultrasounds when she was all bone. Oh and it does look like she's got some hair--even though it's an old wives' tale, it makes me feel better that I might have so much horrible heartburn for a reason.

So. How much is she estimated to weigh? Well, as Sue told us, take it with a grain of salt because it's really hard to estimate and can be off by as much as a pound, her guess based on measurements was 6 lbs, 8 ounces, putting her at the 55th percentile.

I also had my now-weekly doctor appointment. Brady got to meet Dr. Hlavacek, who he really liked. She went over labor signs, told us that everything looks great, listened to her heart, and did the Group B Strep test. She also stopped both Brady and I in our tracks when we both thought she said "Well it's a good thing you came in today." We both immediately thought she meant I was in labor. What it turned out to be was that my former doctor's office is closing at the end of this month. So not only would I have been without my doctor, I would have been without any doctor. So good call to drop them like a hot potato. Also, I LOVE my doctor. She puts me at such ease. She's confident and knowledgeable, doesn't panic or get alarmed, but she's also funny and as Brady said, she gives you a warm, fuzzy feeling. Anyways, I feel so fortunate that I was able to make the switch to Dr. Hlavacek and that I have her to deliver Kaelyn.

Most of the pictures were of her face and this is the best one we got. She's sideways in the photo. The white splotch is right between her eyes and her nose is just to the left of that. It was much clearer and well-defined on the monitor. Her hand is above her. It definitely helps if you turn your head sideways. See her little chubby cheeks?? Love it.

Not much longer now! We can hardly wait to meet her :)
