This was the song I was singing to Kaelyn on our drive to the Farm at South Mountain yesterday, which like the zoo, we've been trying to get to for a few months. We had taken advantage of a Groupon offer (side note: if you don't know about Groupon, you should. Oh and use me as a referral so I can claim $10)...we paid $10, got $20 worth of food. Cool? Yes, but then we wanted to try the pasta and potato salads in addition to our sandwiches, then drinks were $3, and yes, there was a red velvet cupcake that called to Brady from its pretty little dessert stand (and then I too caved in to its yumminess) so we spent a little more than we planned, but still a bargain considering. Everything they use is organic and it was all really, really good.
The farm was nice to walk around--I'd like to go back during the springtime when the trees get their leaves back (they're pecan trees so people were running around picking up pecans off the ground, which were HUGE). For lunch we sat on the patio--I had a tuscan chicken sandwich with pasta salad and a glass bottle root beer, Brady had an Italian sandwich with potato salad and lemonade, and Kaelyn munched on a pumpkin pancake and puffs I brought along, as well as some chicken from my sandwich. Mostly, she made a mess so we fed the birds with her crumbs (except the chicken pieces, which she ate and would have seemed wrong to feed to the unsuspecting birds). She LOVED watched them swoop in.
We then crossed the field of pecan and grapefruit trees and checked out their farmlands. They have a succulents greenhouse (cacti) on the property as well.
In the back of the property by the artist's studio, Little got to start her piggyback ride on Daddy's shoulders (and we picked her a grapefruit, which she did not want to let go of).
Little girl was sporting a major 'do that day--I'm not sure what happened, but her hair did not want to be tamed. I'm referring to the mohawk/flip up top.
